| I'm in the process of filling in back entries from my old journal. This is a long and tedious process, and I'm not doing it entirely in order, as I'm leaving some of the more complicated entries (mostly those with photos) for last. So if you read back and wonder at large gaps and apparently out-of-order entries, that's what's going on.

Jezebel died a little after 4:00 yesterday afternoon, gently put to sleep with an overdose of anesthetic.
She's been struggling with kidney failure since September. She had some ups and downs in September and October, sometimes pepping up and seeming a little more like her old self. But a week ago, she began to slow down significantly, and seemed to be in pain. On Saturday evening, she stopped eating; on Sunday we tried force-feeding her, and on Monday we took her to the local vet, with whom we've been increasingly dissatisfied, and they weren't much help. We learned that she was anemic and very cold; her temp was 95, six or seven degrees below normal. Her heart had developed a murmur. |

I awoke around 4:00 and decided to check CNN. Went back to bed, couldn't sleep. As of now, Ohio, Iowa, and New Mexico haven't been called. New Mexico's five electoral votes could go either way. Bush is up by 15,000 in Iowa (7) and by 135,000 in Ohio (20). The Kerry team isn't conceding until the count of provisional and absentee ballots in Ohio is complete, but by my bleary-eyed calculations, they would need 77% of those votes to come out on top. In all likelihood, Bush will win reelection by at least 281 electoral votes to 257, with a 3.4 million vote lead in the popular vote. |
